Car brands are starting to treat the cabin of a modern EV less like a fixed product and more like a digital platform. Seats, screens and sound systems are increasingly controlled by software, which can be updated years after purchase.
This shift is subtle compared with big headline launches, but it could have a real impact on comfort, resale value and how long drivers keep their vehicles.
From fixed features to upgradeable interiors
In many current models the most advanced software runs in the infotainment system. Navigation, voice control and apps are familiar territory, and over-the-air updates already bring new interfaces or streaming services to parked vehicles.
The next wave goes deeper into the cabin. Brands are connecting climate control, ambient lighting, massage seats, sound profiles and even rear-seat entertainment to central computers that can receive new features after the car leaves the factory.
